It is that time of year again- runners everywhere have either received a spot in the marathon and have begun their training, or they are searching for a spot in hopes of running.
Last year at this time I was training and simultaneously wondering what the hell I had gotten myself into. I had never run before in my life. My first run had me walking before I even reached a mile. I found a great running plan, received a lot of encouragement and well wishes, and finished the marathon on November 1st at around 5 hours and 20 minutes. Record breaking? Not even close. For me-it was an unbelievable achievement. Together with my other five team members, $21,500 was raised for the people of Gulu, Uganda.
This year, Social Promise has once again received five spots for runners interested in joining the marathon. We have the lowest fundraising goal possible- $2,500. Even more important is the fact that $2,500 translates to so much more money in Uganda. Thousands of people will benefit from monetary support of that level.
If you or someone you know is interested in running the marathon, please direct them to our page. There are many worthwhile charities to choose from, but please remember this. If you want to do the most good with the money you raise, consider running for Social Promise. Your donation will SAVE LIVES.
P.S.- An added benefit, if I fill all five spots with other runners, I won’t have to run again!
